Due to growth, Our World class Automotive Supplier located in Shelbyville, Indiana is looking to add a Tooling Design Engineer to our team.


The Tooling Design Engineers provide design, engineering, and production support to all die-cast tooling and maintenance issues while striving to achieve lowest cost and highest quality tooling.

What will you do?


  • Understand and implement design standard practices for new programs and ECR updates
  • Control tooling design files (2D/3D) from die vendors and provide designs to the internal cross functional team.
  • Ensure die-cast tooling is designed, built, and maintained to meet or exceed internal and external customer expectations.
  • Work with outside vendors to procure, repair, or modify die-cast tooling design while following management systems.
  • Work with die maintenance to develop inventory of spare parts.
  • Communicate with internal or external vendors to assure that DMR & ECR requirements are understood and completed accurately
  • Visit die vendors to monitor progress of work when needed.
  • Develop system to ensure objective quality evidence of all repair work.
  • Support launch teams in development of APQP documents related to die-cast tooling.
  • Support estimating process when requested.


What will you need?


  • 4-year technical degree; or 2-year technical degree and 1 years experience; or 2 years experience
  • Understanding of drawings using GD&T and reviewing technical standards
  • Moderate knowledge of CAD Software (Siemens NX strongly preferred)
  • Focus on CAD strongly preferred
  • Design of Injection (cast or plastics) tooling preferred
  • Basic operational knowledge of computer programs and various software, such as Microsoft Office Suite (specifically Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
