Job Title:               Engineering Manager
Department:             Engineering
Reports To:              General Manager

Our World Class Automotive Client located in Mid-Michigan, Mi. Has an immediate need for an Engineering Manager.   This is a Direct Hire position with competitive wages at $80k to $90k and great family benefits.   
Solid Leadership and direct problem resolution.
The Ability to lead this Team to meet launch dates and budget.

Directs, coordinates, and plans the usage of resources including organization, control, and integration of the Engineering Department by performing the following duties personally or through subordinates.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES  include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Communicates on a regular basis with General Manager.

Follows directives from General Manager concerning engineering objectives to meet customer and/or future customer requirements and/or other similar activities.  

Plans and formulates engineering program and organizes engineering staff according to requirements.

Assigns personnel to specific phases or aspects of projects such as quoting, layout, design, preparation of specifications and technical drawings, and creation of job routings and other technical information.

Reviews design for compliance with engineering principles, company standards, customer contract requirements, and related specifications.

Coordinates activities concerned with technical developments, scheduling, and resolving engineering design problems.

Develops and manages the APQP Process (APQP)  to develop and analyze product specifications to determine requirements and establish proposed quality and reliability expectancy of finished product, and verify process capability.

Involved in the Production Part Approval Process (PPAP).

Communicates with Corporate personnel in regards to new projects.

Communicates and meets with customers to discuss designs, proposals, expectations, etc.   Prepares and presents technical presentations at customer s site.   Travel is required.

Communicates and meets with suppliers to prepare information and prints for quoting.   Answers questions concerning materials, dimensions, tolerances, etc.   Performs Supplier Kickoff meetings for new component releases.

Attends trade shows and other similar events.  

Must be able to travel when required.   This may include international travel and ability to secure a passport.

Develops, documents, and maintains all procedures and work instructions for the Engineering Department.

Directs integration of technical activities and products.     

Evaluates and approves design changes, specifications, and drawing releases.

Prepares interim and completion project reports as appropriate.

Must have Lean Manufacturing knowledge, and/or ability to learn, comprehend and apply requirements

Actively participates in employee training programs.

Actively participates with emphasis on engineering performance and effectiveness in metrics meetings.

Actively participates in staff meetings and other company meetings as required.

Actively participates in Five S activities.   5S is a system of continual improvement visual order, organization, cleanliness & standardization. 

May be expected to participate on the Emergency Response Team, Safety Committee, Environmental Management Team or other groups to assist in the continual improvement of the company.

Adheres to company policies, rules and procedures.

Adheres to safety policies, rules and procedures Achievement of Safety Objectives 

Directly supervises employees in the Engineering Department.   Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems, all in conjunction with the Human Resources Department.   Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with company policies and applicable laws.   May be required to perform activities of the workers being supervised

Bachelor s degree or equivalent with four years or more years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.   Must be willing and able to participate in additional training or educational programs as related to job duties as required by the company (must establish a passing grade or equivalent).

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts.   The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles and extreme heat.   The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.   Hearing protection and safety glasses may be required.   Must be able to wear other personal protective equipment (PPE) when required.
