Our World Class   Automotive Supplier located East of Jackson, Mi, has an immediate Direct Hire Opening for:
Die Try Out Tool and Die Maker
This is a 2nd shift position with a competitive wage of $26-$35/hr. Based on experience.
We have an Outstanding Family Blue Cross=Blue Shield package.


General Summary


The Die Maker s main responsibility is to complete and ensure all dynamic die conditions are met. The Die Maker will spot, nest, grind, weld, and polish tools to ensure die conditions and panel quality are met to customer standards for bearing, trim, breakline, and surface. The Die Maker will actively troubleshoot lacking dynamic die conditions and dimensional panel quality and strive to correct the deficiencies in the tooling and panels.   Die Maker will perform internal static buyoff of work performed or on incoming overseas tooling. The Die Maker will strive toward completing the tasks with quality craftsmanship on time and within budgeted hours.


It is imperative that the Die Maker maintains a professional relationship with coworkers, suppliers, and customers and conducts themselves with the highest moral character when representing the company.


Position Type and Expected Hours of Work:
 

  This is a full-time hourly position ranging between 40 - 56 hours per week based on workload. Regular work week is Monday through Friday. Saturdays and Sundays are scheduled based on workload of the shop.


Reports to:   Die Tryout Foreman 


Minimum Requirements:   


  • Certified Journeyman Die Maker or have minimum 5 years in the trade.
  • Experience with large outer panel stamping dies for the automotive industry
  • Motivated individual who is team oriented, shows good judgment, and problem-solving skills.
  • The ability to read GD&T, drawings, specs, and work instructions. 
  • The ability to manage multiple tasks. 
  • The ability to communicate effectively with other shifts during shift hand off.
  • The ability to communicate effectively with other departments throughout the shop.
  • The ability to collaborate with colleagues of all levels.


Position Responsibilities: 




General


  • Competent to perform the following tasks:
Barber and polish working surfaces of Class A outer stamping dies
Mark up finished panel to identify, troubleshoot, and fix dynamic issues in the proper die operation 
Grind and stone spot working surfaces for bearing
Mark up finished panel to identify, troubleshoot, and fix Class A surface defects in the proper die operation
Nest panel effectively through die operations
Interpret CMM data to identify, troubleshoot, and fix dimensional panel quality 
Work metal flow-in for draw die to supplied simulation report and assigned bead size
Manually make breakline changes by welding and grinding flange steels to proper flange conditions
Effectively identify and fix insufficient bearing and nesting utilizing operational bearing panels
Manually make trim changes by shooting, welding, and grinding trim steels to proper trim conditions
Perform internal and customer static and dynamic buyoffs
Manually make dimensional surface moves through pig putty simulation, weld, grind and stone of specified areas
Run stamping panels for MRD level parts prior to buyoff of stamping dies
Apply circle grid template on finished panel for FLD analysis
Operate Straight side and toggle presses to set proper shut height, tonnage, cushion pressure, nitro cylinders, and air pressure for actuated cam
Utilize SMIRT die designs for proper assembly and tryout validation
Die set production stamping line per assigned production process books and set up sheets
Able to set accurate build up / risers for dies in a tryout and production setting
Shear correct blank size for incoming tryout material
Perform precision measurements of tooling




Manufacturing of die details
Set proper clearances in tooling
Block die assemblies for 3D and profile machining
Weld, grind, and fit of die steels
Final assembly of die after heat treat
Drill, tap, dowel of die components
Dry run of die
Review & organize incoming material per BOM
Flat bottom die steels

Crane / Fork Truck


Secondary Duties:


  • Keeps 5S in Work Area
  • Promotes Shop Safety
  • Supports ATC Quality System
  • Follows ATC Die Build Process
  • Crib Inventory
  • Document Open Issues in the ATC ERP system
  • Follow the die to the tryout department for tryout support
